How are hours earned in class?

Each of the following classes incorporate 5-10 hour projects that are directly connected to classroom instruction and meet real community needs.

  • 6th Grade - English, Math, and Health

  • 7th Grade - Art, Social Studies, Physical Education

  • 7th or 8th Grade - Family Studies, Technology Education

  • 8th Grade - Music, Science

  • 9th and10th Grade - Biology, English 10, Government, Physical Education, Technology Education

What other Opportunities are available for my child to earn hours?

All students may participate in independent projects which meet community needs. Most community projects are direct service, giving students the opportunity for contact with the population being served.

Some examples of appropriate independent projects may include:

  • membership in school sponsored clubs
  • tutoring younger students
  • working in soup kitchens
  • raising money for a charitable cause
  • one-on-one interactions with residents of an assisted living/nursing facility
  • working in an animal shelter
  • collecting supplies for a homeless shelter

Check the bulletin board in front of room E-12 for other opportunities.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU GET PRE-APPROVAL FOR ALL STUDENT SERVICE PROJECTS
