Accelerated Reader
Program
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a reading program
meant to give students a wide range of choice
in titles and an opportunity to take a computer-generated
evaluation that tracks the books read. That means
no written forms/reports to complete after
reading a book! That means more time to read
for fun!

Maryland
Black-Eyed Susan Book Award Program
Since 1992, the Black-Eyed Susan Book Award Program
has honored outstanding books chosen annually
by Maryland students. Hereford Middle School is
excited about participating in a program which
promotes life-long reading habits while encouraging
students to enjoy quality, contemporary literature.
Students who have read at least three books from
the list of ten nominees may vote for their favorite.
Students who have read at least five books will
be invited to a celebration in the media center
in March. All students will receive a certificate
of participation. Special prizes will be awarded
to those who complete all ten books. Teachers
will lead informal discussions on each book, and
students will then vote for their favorite title.
The ballots from across the state will be tallied,
and, in May, the winner will be announced.
The books on this list have been published over
the last three years; therefore they should be
easy to obtain. All titles are available
in the school media center and are also part of
the Accelerated Reader program. |
